Sampling for the Chemical Industry
Reliable inline sampling of powders, granules, and abrasive products
The production of plastic granulates, urea, nitrate, and chemical powders places high demands on sampling. Equipment must both respect material properties and withstand wear, dust exposure, and high flow rates.
WEMO-techniek develops samplers and sample packaging systems that fit a wide range of chemical production environments and can supply equipment in accordance with NEN, ISO, and ATEX specifications.
Sampling challenges in the chemical industry
Various factors play a role in sampling bulk solids and powders in chemical processes:
- Wear and abrasion
Powders such as aluminum hydroxide, lime, or fly ash can be highly abrasive. Choosing the right materials, such as stainless steel 316 instead of 304, prevents unnecessary wear. - High transport speeds and volumes
Sampling from conveyors, transfer points, or drop chutes requires robust equipment that can sample continuously and safely, even outdoors or in humid conditions. - Dust exposure and explosion risk
Powder handling can lead to dust formation, which in certain situations creates an ATEX risk. Proper sealing, extraction, and surface finishing are essential. - Aggressive or corrosive products
Some raw materials require adapted designs in terms of sealing, corrosion resistance, or surface finish.
WEMO-techniek is happy to advise on the optimal configuration for each application. Where possible, we prefer to test with product samples first to determine the best solution.

Key considerations for implementation
- Material selection: stainless steel 304 or 316, depending on corrosion or wear sensitivity.
- Sealing and dust management: versions with extraction or additional sealing available.
- Integration into process lines: compatible with existing control systems.
- Representative: design and positioning aligned with product flow and particle size.
